Abercrombie & Kent: Tailor Made British Columbia
Day 1 Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Arrive in Vancouver, an eclectic city rich in indigenous and modern culture, where you are met and privately transferred to your luxurious accommodation.
Set off with your guide for a day of short walking tours and scenic drives throughout Vancouver. Among the highlights you may come across are picturesque English Bay, trendy Yaletown and False Creek, cultural Chinatown, historic Gastown and Granville Island, Stanley Park or the Capilano River Canyon Rainforest. Learn about sustainability at a salmon hatchery and experience thrills on the 164-foot-high Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge. Along the way, enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch prepared by your guide.
Travel to nearby Horseshoe Bay with your guide and board a ferry to Bowen Island. Sitting at the head of Howe Sound, Bowen Island charms visitors with a combination of natural, cultural, and culinary highlights. Explore an uninhabited lake and take an interpretive eco-walk up a salmon creek. Roam Bowen Island’s quaint artistic village of Snug Cove, including its Artisan Lane. Finish your visit with a wonderful west-coast lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Vancouver via seaplane, taking in the scenic vistas.
Join your guide for a private trip up the Sea to Sky Highway, lauded as one of the most gorgeous drives in North America, en route to Whistler Resort, site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Village. Gaze out at panoramic ocean views, towering mountains and sprawling glaciers as you travel along the Coast Range. Take advantage of bountiful photo opportunities, with optional stops at Shannon Falls and Squamish. Upon arrival in Whistler, stroll the pedestrian village before boarding the extraordinary Peak-2-Peak Gondola. Spanning a record-setting distance between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains, it provides you with an unparalleled perspective of the peaks, coastal rainforest and ancient glaciers. Enjoy lunch at one of Whistler's many fine restaurants before checking in to your elegant resort accommodations.
Head into the Whistler backcountry in a private luxury 4x4 to search for bears with an expert guide. Travel a maze of private roads and experience the wildlife, glaciers and rainforests of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Watch for eagles, hawks, pika, marmots, hares, deer and, of course, the black bears and cubs that call this area home. Back in Whistler, enjoy a three-course lunch before visiting the Audain Art Museum, home to a comprehensive selection of the province’s most celebrated artists, where you join the museum’s curator for a private guided tour.
Board a floatplane on nearby Green Lake for a shared flight to Victoria. Fly down the Whistler Valley, over the Strait of Georgia, and over the Gulf Islands to Vancouver Island. Land in Victoria’s Inner Harbour, where your guide joins you for an orientation of the historic downtown. Enjoy time for lunch at leisure at a local restaurant before travelling to Butchart Gardens, which date back over 100 years. Stroll the Sunken Garden, English Rose Garden, Japanese Garden and more on this 50-acre campus populated with flowers and birds. Afterward, return to your hotel in Victoria.
Board a sleek open-air whale-watching vessel for a shared morning wildlife cruise of the Salish Sea. This body of water set just off Victoria’s coast teems with marine life and is one of the best places in the world for watching orcas. You may also sight the humpback, minke and gray whales that thrive here. Keep watch for porpoises, seals, sea lions, sea otters and a myriad of sea birds as well. After your excursion, enjoy time for lunch at leisure at one of your guide’s favorite local restaurants. This afternoon, discover some of Victoria’s highlights, including hidden gems like the Abkhazi Gardens and Government House. As you go, learn about the city’s history and visit some of its fascinating neighborhoods. Enjoy your evening at leisure, free to relax or explore on your own.
After breakfast, privately transfer to Victoria Airport for your departing flight.
